A crowdsourcing tool to get approximate auto-rickshaw fares for cities like Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Coimbatore & Mysore
MeterPodu is NOT about forcing auto-drivers to adhere to govt set meter rates.
In most places the meters are rarely updated despite rising fuel prices and hence auto-drivers have issues with using them
The aim of MeterPodu is to show people what on average is being charged on the road and NOT how much they have been overpaying.
The sucess of the site lies in you entering fares for routes that you have taken.
Please add fares and let us know if you face issues doing so. the real power of MeterPodu will be unleashed only when we have a lot of user entered fares
Auto rickshaws in Chennai (and other Indian cities) are highly unregulated.
Due to various factors, auto drivers charge customers based on what they *think* that the customer can pay.
Every fuel price hike brings about increases in the fare demanded, but this increase is not just disproportional to the hike, but rather exorbitant too.
While we are not out to create villians out of the average auto-rickshaw driver, we think the one way to bring some semblance of order to this seemingly chaotic situation is to crowd-source the fare information and let every commuter know what the approximate auto fares would be to go from point A to point B.
And out of this thought, MeterPodu was born!

Select a city from the dropdown options & then begin typing the source location
As you type, the system will begin to populate suggestions for places that users have used before. The same happens for the destination as well
Hitting the "Get Fares" button will plot the route on the map and bring back the distance, govt set fare and an average fare for your route
The average fare is calculated based on all the fares users have added for that particular route, Please add a fare for a route if you know how much is generally charged
You will have to login using either twitter or facebook at the top right corner of the page
Once you have logged in, you will be able to see an extra textbox for fares and a button to add a fare.
Just like you did to get a fare, fill in the source & destination fields.
Now fill in the fare that you were charged for that route & hit the "Add a Fare" button
The site will display a message confirming the additionof your fare into the system
